Hi Everybody....
I was casually surfing some vintage web sites yesterday, when I came across some familiar items. After rummaging around the garage for a bit I came across a bag with some old medicinal bottles inside. The Dr. Edwards Olive Pills are from the 40's. The Tums and Dental Floss dispensers are from the 50's.
And NO, I do NOT still use them..
(Although I could..hehehehe)

Sunday Sound-Off.......

Hi Everybody....
All is well this GLORIOUS Week-End so far.
All is well except for one little thing....
I know this might sound trivial.
I know this might sound a bit anal.
But I would like you all to either consciously, or subconsciously, start paying close attention to almost ALL television fast-food commercials.
THEY FAKE EAT!!!!!...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Oh they might look like they are enjoying that Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich, but they are chewing AIR!
That starving guy might look as though he is feasting on a KFC Extra Crispy Chicken thigh, but he is chewing AIR!
Why for the love of Billy Mays, must we be subject to Untruth in Advertising?
This really bothers me, can't they find some starving guy that can do 30 takes on eating a Hardy's Thick Burger?...I CAN!!
This little irritation has been building up now for quite a while.
I feel much better now...
Isn't blogging wonderful?

Thursday Portrait//Friday Flash 55.....

Stubborn Green-Headed guardian of your sturdy bloodline.
Drake was dead-set against this busy spot to hatch his legacy,
but she would not be swayed!
Once, twice, THREE times the angry upright flightless ones destroyed the nest.
Then...In a blink of an eye, the egg was laid!
The Hen thought...( Fuack You! )

All this Drama happened yesterday at our front entrance.
We tried to hint to the Mallard pair that they should move their nest to safer and wetter territory. But when our back was turned for 5 minutes...BINGO!!!
She laid one egg in the dirt!
This morning, she had rebuilt the nest and was sitting on TWO eggs.
In my experience with ducks, she will probably lay 6 or 7 MORE.

I'm leaving tomorrow at noon for a long week-end, and I'll be on the road for 10 hours or more. So consider this 2 posts in one...
My Thursday Portrait...AND My Friday Flash 55.
If you are reading this Thursday Night or Friday, please remember...

If you or anyone you know has written a Friday Flash 55, please come tell the G-Man.
I will visit, read, enjoy, comment...Then BOOK!!
So from the most gracious host, from coast to coast...
Have a GREAT Week-End!!!!
Bizness as usual, I'll have my lap-top.

And for a pretty penny I might add.
The Farmer Peets can, we have had since the 40's.
It was used for camping and/or deer hunting to store food in, to keep it out of reach of critters.
Mine is NOT for sale.... of course I still use it!!!

How Sweet It Is......

Today on the Oldies music that was playing in our dealership, the old sad song "LAST KISS" by J. Frank Wilson came on. I mentioned to a few of my co-horts that happened to be listening with me, that the song was originally written and recorded by a Wild White Soul singer named Wayne Cochoran and The C.C. Riders....
They gave me this blank stare like I wuz nuts!
It seems that NO ONE had ever heard of him. Am I THAT old?
Please, do me a favor. Please listen to this You-Tube...
You won't regret it! hehehehe
Tell me if you don't think his hero was James Brown.

(Jackie Gleason always opened his weekly variety show by sayin...Ooooh, How Sweet It Is)

I'm Back In The Saddle Again...

Hi Everybody...
I had a hankerin today for a charcoal grilled steak.
But as you may or may not remember, my myopic son Reese ran over my 30 year old Weber Kettle last Winter, and I had to bang it into grilling condition with a sledge hammer. It never did work right after that, and I made the decision to treat myself to a brand new grill!!
I decided to do some comparative shopping and visited Lowes, Home Depot, and finally ended up at Wal-Mart. They had this last 30 inch covered charcoal grill, WITH a hinged top, warming shelf, and an ash catch on the bottom, for 35 Bucks ALREADY ASSEMBLED!!!!
So after starting a fire with last years Father Day present, (A charcoal starter chimney), I cooked up some T-Bones, some boneless Chuck Eyes, and grilled some baby Summer Squash and fresh Asparagus...To Die For Boobulah!!!
Thanks for wading through this..:P

Friday Flash 55.......

Playing records, burning the papers.
Sipping on a Cherry Phosphate after shopping at the 'Five and Dime'.
Recalling how LOUD typewriters were, or how messy carbon paper was.
Can I still have a promising career as a key-punch operator?
Do not bend, fold, spindle, or MUTILATE!!!

If you or anyone you know has written a Friday Flash 55, please come tell The G-Man.
I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, Then BOOK!!!
So from the most gracious host from coast to coast....
Have a Great Week-End!!!

On top of collecting Old Radio's, Stereos, Harley stuff, Baseball Cards, Comics, Old Fishing Gear, Etc....I have a fairly interesting array of knives.
This knife was given to me by my Grandpa, and it was made by The Colonial Knife Company of Providence Rhode Island.
Colonial got it's start in 1919, when a blacksmith named Antonio Paolantonio returned home from WWI, and began making Knives. It was originally called The A. Paolantonio Cutlery Co. The business grew, and in 1926 he took on his 2 brothers as partners, and changed the name to The Colonial Knife Co.
When WWII broke out, he was asked to join the War Production Board, and helped develope a polymer for knife handles that could be boiled and sterilized for medics in the field without melting. These polymer handles were later added to the Colonial knife.
Over the years the company grew even larger, and in the 60's (when this knife that I have shown was made) was one of the largest producers of pocket knives in the country.
In 1998, Colonial closed it's doors and sort of faded into history as one of the last of the great pocket knife manufacturing firms. Many original Colonial knives are worth hundreds of dollars to collectors. In 2001 the name Colonial was bought by CCI Inc. (Colonial Cutlery International). And to their credit, still produce many of the traditional knives originally sold by Colonial Knife. But I don't think that Japanese or Pakistani steel knives are the same.
I keep this knife in my desk drawer at work, and of course I use it every day...

TMI Tuesday.....

As you may have guessed, The G-Man aka. Mr Knowitall, is a creature of habit. I have Friday Flash 55, Retro-Wednesday, and Thursday Portrait. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are pretty much up for grabs, although I did for a brief period of time have Porcine Monday, and TMI Tuesday. I think I'll revive TMI Tuesday for a while....

OK, this is what I have in mind for today. I'm going to give you, my faithful minions, 3 useless pieces of common knowledge that you may or may not already know. What I would like from you, in my comment box, is ONE useless piece of info that you know off the top of your head, WITHOUT GOOGLING!! It could include; Food, History, TV, Movies...WHATEVER!!

1. Do you know where Arby's got it's name? Arby's, R.B.'s=Roast Beef?
Get it? R B's?

2. Contrary to popular belief, Lake Superior is NOT the largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Baikal in Siberia, has more fresh water by volume, than all of the Great Lakes Combined!!

3. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, AND Jeff Beck all played lead guitar for the early 60's rock group The Yardbirds. (Although not at the same time)

Your turn....C'mon, you have one tid bit of useless info roiling about inside that head of yours...

Bacon Explosion.......

Hi Everybody, I hope you all had a Safe Holiday.
So, are you ready for the Bacon Explosion?

1. With 10 thick sliced pieces of bacon..make a 'weave'.

2. On top of the bacon press about 2 pounds of sausage
evenly. This can be hot or sweet Italian, or any kind of
sausage that you prefer. Then on top of that, sprinkle about
a half pound crispy crumbled bacon. Then drizzle any BB-Q
sauce that you prefer over that.

3. I'm actually missing a pic. You first roll the sausage up
on top of the bacon. When you get to the edge of the bacon,
reach down under the edge and roll the whole thing back, covering
the sausage roll with the weave.

4. Cook over indirect heat on your grill for about an hour and a half.
(I cooked this in the oven..hehehe) Slather generously with your
favorite sauce...VOILA!!!!
It looks good sitting next to that Apricot Basted Ham eh?

Have a Great Week....

And The Winner Is.......

Congratulations Smarmoofus, for being the FIRST correct responder to my 55 riddle!
I've always known this little tidbit of knowledge, due in part by my love of all of the James Bond novels and movies. Rosa Klebb was a very creepy character. She was in the movie, "From Russia With Love". She defected from the Russian Spy network called SMERSH, and joined a more Global Network of spy's named SPECTRE. (Special Executive for Crime Terrorism Revenge and Extortion). She had a poison dagger that popped out of her boot!
Anyway, I knew her real name was Lotte Lenya, and every time I heard Bobby Darin's version of this song, I wondered why he would mention her name.....

Mack The Knife was a song from an early 20th Century German Play called the 3 Penny Opera. The opera was penned by the well known playwrite Bertholt Brecht, with lyrics by Kurt Weill. Lotte Lenya and Kurt Weill were husband and wife. Lotte Lenya had a version of this song out in Germany in the 30's, you can download it on You-Tube..

So Smoofie, your Chocolate and Cash are on the way, and you will be receiving a 1099 for the $3.50!

...."Jenny Diver, Sukey Tawdry, look out for Miss Smarmoofus, and ole Lucy Brown. You know the line forms, on the right babe, now that Mackies back in town...Look out ole Mackie is BACK!"

I plan on dazzling the family today at Easter Dinner, when not only am I going to have all the traditional delights like Glazed Ham (bone-in), Piorgi's, Green Bean Casserole, Home-Baked Pecan Pie, and Sweet Potato's....But just wait till I whip out the "BACON EXPLOSION"!!!!! (a detailed pictorial will soon be shown)

Have a Happy Easter Everyone!!!

This riddle is a mind boggler,

In or around 1964, My Grandpa took me to the lumber yard to purchase a solid piece of birch wood. In my 8th grade shop class, I made this cutting board. It has been treated with nothing but salad oil over the years, and I never cut meat on the same side that I cut veggies on.
Of course I still use it...

The Weather Outside Is Frightful...

Hi Everybody....Remember the last Pic from yesterday?
The first pic was shot from the same place...25 hours later!
Pic #2 is what my front yard looks like today...Grrrrrrr
Mother Nature is a BEEEEEOTCH!!!

PS. Plus the snow weighted down a tree on my street so bad that it broke some branches on a power line, and we were without power for about 3 hours.
Thank Goodness for a battery-backup sump pump...hehehehe

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Hi Everybody....
Saturday was a bit chilly, but it was sunny and clear. So I hauled The Hog out of the garage and hooked the trickle charger to the battery for about 3 hours.
VROOOOOM....Started right up like a good boy!
After enjoying my first ride of the year, I grimaced at the weather forecast for Late Sunday night and Monday....3-5 INCHES OF FRICKEN SNOW!!!!!!
This mornings sunrise is a harbinger of that prediction, "Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning"!!
Winter just won't give up the ghost......

Friday Flash 55.....

The crime appeared random.
She bled out with barely a whimper.
That cheating bitch deserved it!
His perfection made him smile.
No cell phone, no surveillance, no witness.
The bloody evidence was burried miles away.
But SUDDENLY...Panic engulfed him as he glanced toward his wrist, and the pale outline of his missing Timex!!

If you or anyone you know has written a Friday Flash 55, please come tell The G-Man. I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, Then BOOK!!
